Dissemination-Based Information Systems

چکیده
This paper examines the construction of distributed information systems that incorporate the ability to push data out to clients (i.e., dissemination) in addition to having clients pull data from servers. One key issue that distinguishes such dissemination-based information systems (DBIS) from more traditional ones is communications asymmetry. Asymmetry arises in many new applications due to both physical characteristics such as network bandwidths, as well as to workload characteristics. We outline a number of diierent data delivery mechanisms, and then focus on one particular dissemination mechanism that we have developed, called Broadcast Disks. Finally, we discuss issues that arise in the design of a DBIS architecture that can provide many diierent modes of data delivery.

The major challenge for the tomato farmers is getting a fair price at the market price given that there are many actors involved in the tomato value chain. Given this situation, this project's goal was to improve communication pathways in dissemination of agricultural market information in tomato value chains in Iringa and Dodoma Regions in Tanzania. The specific objectives were to: identify an...
متن کاملAn Access Control Mechanism for Large Scale Data Dissemination Systems
Automatic data dissemination systems are becoming increasingly relevant in internet-based information systems. In such systems, users subscribe to the dissemination service by providing interest profiles. These profiles are then used to determine which information should be delivered to which users, whenever new information is entered into the system. A main shortcoming of existing disseminatio...

متن کاملInformation Dissemination in Disadvantaged Wireless Communications Using a Data Dissemination Service and Content Data Network
Disadvantaged wireless communications, such as those in fractionated spacecraft systems, need real-time, reliable, and fault tolerant information dissemination from information producers (such as sensors) to information consumers (such as information exploitation, analysis, or command and control systems). Such systems are well-suited to the publishsubscribe paradigm, but cannot afford the larg...
